New Way Academy FAQ's

Individuals with learning disabilities have average or above average intelligence but struggle in one or more areas such as reading, writing, spelling, math, listening, and oral expression. Because learning disabilities have a neurological basis, the difference in how the brain receives, processes, or communicates information is considered life long. Despite challenges, children with learning disabilities can achieve and be successful adults with appropriate interventions and instruction.

The tuition at New Way for 2011-2012 is $19,950 and includes instruction, materials, and textbooks. In addition, new students are charged a Program Planning Fee of $2,500 that covers reviewing records, completing comprehensive assessments, and developing an individual education plan (IEP).

New Way Academy values and seeks students from diverse economic backgrounds. The Board of Directors is committed to assisting families who can not afford to send their child to New Way. The amount of financial assistance awarded to each family is based on financial need, parental support of the school, and availability of funds. Financial information submitted for review by the Financial Aid Committee and financial aid awards are confidential.

Financial assistance is limited to tuition. Families receiving assistance are responsible for incidental expenses that occur during the school year as well as the Program Planning Fee for new students.

Students in grades 7-12 are provided transition services to fit their educational needs. Once a student leaves New Way, we offer a post-secondary transitional program called the Bridgeway Transition Program. Bridgeway is designed to support students as they transition from high school to the post-secondary endeavor of their choice. Our students are capable of reaching every goal they set, and Bridgeway's system of support ensures their success.

New Way Academy maintains high expectations for student conduct and responsibility. A positive discipline program that utilizes logical consequences, problem solving strategies, and a token economy system fosters strong character and appropriate behavior. Emphasis is placed on rewarding accomplishments and applauding successes. Teachers provide positive attention for appropriate behavior and structure the classroom to help students stay productive and focused. Corporal punishment is not used at New Way. Discipline is facilitated by preventative structure, clear expectations, and appropriate consequences.
